March 2020 – Peak Performer

Everyone knows that we perform better when we feel significant and secure. If you ever find yourself feeling insignificant or insecure, turn to God’s Word. While reading and studying the Bible in 1982, I found fourteen helpful verses. Six verses teach us about God’s blessings, which provide significance to our lives. And eight verses teach us about God’s promises, which provide security to our lives. In order to make these verses more meaningful, I personalized them, and you should too.

God’s Blessings Provide Our Significance

  • I am His child (John 1:12).
  • I am Christ’s friend (John 15:15).
  • I am a joint heir with Christ (Romans 8:17)
  • God loves me (John 3:16; Jeremiah 31:3).
  • I am precious in His sight (Isaiah 43:4).
  • I am valuable (Matthew 6:26).

God’s Promises Provide Our Security

  • God forgives my sins (1 John 1:9).
  • I am free from condemnation (Romans 8:1).
  • God is always with me (Matthew 28:20).
  • Nothing can separate me from God’s love (Romans 8:35).
  • God is for me. Who can be against me? (Romans 8:31)
  • In all things, God works for my good (Romans 8:28).
  • God’s plan is for my welfare and to give me a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
  • I can do all things in Him who strengthens me (Philippians 4:13).

Put a copy of these fourteen verses on your smartphone. If you ever feel insignificant or insecure, read them. It’s an easy way to use both Psychology 101 and God’s Word in the “real world” so you can maintain peak performance. God’s Word helps us renew our mind (Romans 12:2) so we can live a full and abundant life (2 Peter 1:4).

If you ever feel that your performance is falling short, look to God’s promises for a solution. For example, maybe your performance falls short because you engaged in negative self-talk. Replace that negative self-talk with one of God’s promises such as “I can do all things in him who strengthens me.” Or if your performance falls short because your self-image took a hit, focus on one of God’s blessings such as “I am precious in His sight.”
